Mr Tan Suan Swee is concurrently an Advisory Director at Temasek International Advisors Pte Ltd.
Prior to his retirement from Temasek International in March 2021, Suan Swee held the appointment of Managing Director, Investments and headed its energy, life sciences and agri business groups during his 18-year career. In life sciences, he led Temasek’s investments in Quintiles, a contract research organization; Zuellig Pharma, the largest distributor of drugs in Asia; and Bumrungrad Hospital, a leading hospital in Thailand. In the agri business, he contributed to Temasek’s investment in Ceva Sante, a leading global player based in France, in animal health products. He was formerly a director on the boards of Quintiles, Zuellig Pharma, Bumrungrad Hospital, Ceva Sante as well as Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, Seraya Power and PT Chandra Asri Petrochemicals (Indonesia). He also served previously Chairman of A*Star’s Portfolio Management Committee. In addition to SSW, Mr Tan is presently on the Board of Directors of Pavilion Energy, Jilin Food Zone and Star Energy Geothermal and Board of Commissioners of PT Barito Renewable (Indonesia), a company in the geothermal energy industry.
Before joining Temasek International in 2003, Suan Swee was Assistant Managing Director of Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB). In his 16 years at EDB, he headed the energy and chemical industry clusters and was the founding cluster head of biomedical sciences. He was a principal player in the development of Jurong Island as a hub for the energy and chemical industries.
Suan Swee graduated from the University of Adelaide, Australia with a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Chemical Engineering on a Colombo Plan Scholarship and holds an MBA from the National University of Singapore.
